Q & A bubbles

What is Journal57?

Journal57 is a web directory organised like a gazetteer: it maps 833 web destinations across 22 subject territories, records each one plainly, and lets you browse by topic. Entries are submitted by site operators and reviewed before being added to the index.

Is it free to list my site?

Yes. Listing on Journal57 is free. Submit your URL through the Add a Site form, select the territory that fits, and an editor will review and add it to the index. There are no charges at any stage.

How are sites organised?

Every site is assigned to one of Journal57's 22 territories — subject sections ranging from specific professional sectors to the general Miscellany index. Within each section, entries appear in submission order. There is no paid placement.

How do I submit a site?

Use the Add a Site form linked in the navigation. Enter your site's URL, write a brief description if you wish (or leave it blank and the editor will supply one), choose the territory, and submit. Review is typically completed within a few days.

Who reviews submissions?

A human editor reviews each submission to confirm the site is accessible, fits the selected territory, and meets the basic factual standard for inclusion. Automated scrapers and placeholder sites are declined. Everything else is added to the index.

How do I find sites in a specific subject area?

Select a territory from the category list on the home page. Each territory page shows all indexed entries in that section, with a brief description of each site. The index is browsable without an account or login.

Can I update my listing after submission?

If your site has moved, rebranded, or the description is no longer accurate, use the contact details on the About page to request a correction. Editors review update requests the same way as new submissions.

The back cover

Journal57 is a web directory built on the logic of a gazetteer: it records where things are, describes them plainly, and lets the reader navigate from there. Across 22 subject territories and 833 indexed entries, the directory maps the open web the way a cartographer maps a region — by systematic survey and factual notation, not by preference or payment. Each listing was submitted by the site operator, reviewed for basic accuracy, and plotted in the section where it belongs. The result is a reference you can browse by topic without worrying that the first entry paid to be there. Journal57 is free to use and free to list in — submit your URL, pick a territory, and the index will record your co-ordinate alongside the rest.
